Lifestyle Revival

Today was Day One of trying to get my life back. It was a rocky start as I had to cut my workout short, to make supper, to get back to work after being off for four hours. I didn't get time to eat my morning snack either. I'm hoping tomorrow will go better.

I really hope tomorrow isn't another workout with lots of leg stuff. I could barely walk after today's.

Long time no chat

I wish I had some awesome news or anything new to talk about but I don't really. I've been working so much I haven't had time to do any posts.

I'm going to cancel ipsy in December, you won't see anymore of those posts. I'm going to do empties seasonally from now on. I just don't have enough to do it monthly.

The wedding planning is almost complete. Just a few little things left to do.

Hopefully you'll hear from me again before Christmas.

Another Monday Update.

As you can tell, life has been a bit crazy and I just don't have the time to write much anymore. I'm hoping in the near future that I'll have to time, but we're short at work and I'm just so exhausted when I get home.

Today is my first REAL day off from all kinds of work/socializing stuff, hence the post. I am an introvert, and I write when I finally get alone time. I'm just writing this to say "Hey! I'm still alive". Now off to do some housework.

Lazy Monday Update

Lazy being the operative word in that title. Honestly, I had put Sunday instead of Monday, that's how my week was last week. Thankfully, this is going to be a short work week, but a busy personal week.

Hubby is in a wedding this weekend, so he's going to be super busy with that. I've got a lovely purple dress to wear and I'm wearing the same shoes from our engagement shoot. I'm hoping to put some pics up on Instagram when I get the edits. Don't follow me there? Come hang out!

Thursday night I'm going to Paint Nite with a friend, which I'm really excited about. The painting we picked out has lots of blue tones so hopefully it'll go nicely in our bedroom. One of these times, I have to get someone to do one of the pair nights where the two painting go together. I think that would be great over our bed.

Most of the Spring it rained. That's one reason that I haven't been posting. I use natural light for my photos, and well, there's been only a few nice days to take pictures and I'm been away doing things outside on those nice days. I'm hoping now that summer is here and the sun lasts longer in the day, I can catch up on posts.

I didn't do Finish 6 By Summer. I found that I wasn't wearing much makeup in my Spring project so I decided not to bother with the Summer one. I am going to do the Fall one though. It'll be mostly not makeup I'm thinking, so we'll see if it goes better. I am going to try and start using more make up though, since I have way too much that I don't use. Maybe I'll do a ten pan of the make up, and maybe that will push me to use it more often. It's just so hard when you get up at 4:30 AM and don't really do anything but work and stay home.

My Project Polish was a failure. I just don't paint my nails enough to bother with it. I can only paint my nails for two days of the week and that's not enough to get through any polish. Maybe if I wear get a job where I can actually paint my nails, I'll start it again.

Wedding planning is so much! I'm just at the point where I need to pick vendors and such. We've got our theme and our venue and food picked out. We're just going to do iPod music, maybe use Spotify. The dress hunt has started. I still have to finish asking my half of the bridal party, Hubby has his already. Hair and make up are covered. The only problem we're having is actually picking a day. It will be summer but where Hubby is in the Navy, we have to wait to find out when he'll be home. So once that's picked, I can get on the hunt for a cake and flowers. Most of the decor, I'll be doing myself, so that'll be easy.

So there's my life update. All before breakfast. My coffee is cold now, so time to finish that and make a new one and to have some breakfast. Hopefully in the coming weeks, I'll be all caught up on beauty posts and I can start doing some foodie posts and all of that.

Until next time,
Max

Green Smoothie

Awhile ago my doctor told me that I needed more veggies in my diet and just more calories in general. So I started making more smoothies. This is my current green smoothie that we've been drinking either for breakfast or a snack.

Recipe makes 2 smoothies.

  • 1 cup Almond Milk - I've been trying out different brands and flavours. Usually it's unsweetened vanilla flavour. High in calcium and low in calories
  • 2 cups Spinach - the green part of the smoothie. I tried kale, but I don't like kale. At all. Also high in vitamins and potassium. Much needed in my diet.
  • 1 Avocado - another green part. The good fat. Also much needed.
  • 1 Banana - Potassium central!
  • 1 cup Blueberries - Antioxidants! They're yummy too and quite easy for me to get.
  • 1 cup Pineapple - Full of energy making Manganese and Thiamin. When you get up at 4am everyday, you need all you can get!
  • 2 teaspoons of Ground Flax - Full of omega fatty acids which help with the heart and is an anti-inflammatory. I've bad knees, so this is a great thing.
  • 2 teaspoons of Ground Chia - Full of B vitamins and iron. Both of which I need like crazy!
  • 1 scoop of Protein Powder - Right now I'm using Banana flavoured. I switch it up though.
So I punched this all into MyFitnessPal and came up with these stats:

402         Calories
15g         Fat
1693mg   Potassium
67.5g      Carbs
15g         Fiber
23g         Sugars
24g         Protein
111.5%    Vitamin A
116%       Vitamin C
50%        Calcium
45%        Iron

I try to make all meals and snacks about 500 Calories mainly because I'm suppose to be eating about 5 times a day and about 2500 Calories. So this works pretty well. I freeze most of the fruit so that the smoothies are more frozen than liquidy. I tend to make them the night before then they're ready for the next morning. I don't want to wake the neighbours with the blender at 4am.

December Empties

I'm going to do things a little backwards today, mainly because I'm too lazy to move around my pictures.

Tea Time! I bought a DavidsTea advent calendar again this year, so you'll see the little tins for the next few months.

Sugar Plum Forest is a favourite of mine, I've still got a couple of bags left. As for the tins, the only one I might buy would be the Organic Cinnamon Rooibos Chai.

Ocean Driftwood Candle - it was one of those musky smelling candles. I might buy it again, but it wasn't unique.

Derma e Hydrating Night Creme - this was a nice smelling creme and it did the job, but I have others I like better.

Urban Decay 24/7 Liner in Black Velvet- I have enough black liners to last me forever, but maybe when I'm done them all, I would think about buying this again.

H20 Apricot-Peche Body Puree - I really hated this. All it did was leave apricot shell bits in my tub after my bath. More hassle then it's worth.

Now for a couple products I didn't finish, but I'm throwing out.

Vera Wang Princess sample - I have a full size of this, so it doesn't make me too sad. The sprayer stopped working.

Avon Cream Eyeshadow in Cool Grey - This is totally dried out. Waste of money.

Time for the annual totals!

Tooth care - 11 (more than last year)

Lip products - 0 (less than last year. How did I not finish anything?!)

Body products - 27 (more than last year)

Hair care - 12 (less than last year)

Face products - 57 (less than last year)

Make-up - 7 (less than last year. Gotta get on this!)

Perfume - 10 (less than last year)

Nail products - 8 (same as last year)

Random - 15 (less than last year)

Tea - 46 (double from last year!)

Candles - 9 (new this year)

Life Happenings!

I'm getting married!! My lovely fiance proposed awhile ago after being together for 5 years. I'm not going to give details here, but I have to say, I was really surprised and totally thrown off. I think that's the point though, to be completely surprised.

After telling the world via Facebook and texting my long-distance friends pictures, I called and woke up (opps!) my family and told them. Mind you they knew already.

So now the planning begins!! We haven't talked about plans much yet, but I've got about a year to plan a small, intimate wedding. For those who know me best, my dress search will be the hardest part of the whole process. Once the dress is bought, I figure the rest will be easy.

I don't think I'll post much about the wedding planning here but I'm sure there will be random comments along the way.

Wish me luck!

ipsy - December 2015

This month's ipsy bag wasn't too bad.

December's ipsy bag included:

This bag wasn't too bad. I'm still debating keeping it. Every time I want to cancel, I get a bag like this and I second guess my decision.

These will either go into use, or into the panning pile.

December Favourites

December didn't bring any favourites. It did bring a makeup/skincare inventory. I won't be sharing that unless requested. I did start rediscovering old, forgotten favourites, and products I've had for awhile.

Hopefully 2016 will bring "new" things and I'll find some favourites then.

December Nail Polish Colours

Again, I didn't paint my nails. In 2016, I'm going to drop this series and start something else to do with nails.

Finish 6 by Christmas - Finale!

Time to see if I finished anything else! I finished 2 perfumes and the black liner last time.

I didn't make any progress on Penny.

Mink is gone!

No progress on the body spray.

Nor the lotion.

There's a bit of this perfume gone.

What I didn't use up will just go into the next project!

ipsy - November 2015

November's ipsy bag seems to be very eye heavy.

Included in November's bag:
  • Coolway Strong Hold Spray - sample size 15mL $2.99 - full size 100mL $19.95
  • ModelCo Highlighting Trio - sample size 0.12oz - full size 0.12oz $22
  • INSPR Beauty Eye Shadow in Carnival - sample size 0.05oz - full size 0.05oz $13
  • Bdellium Tools Blending Brush - sample size 1 brush - full size 1 brush $9
  • Smashbox Full Exposure Mascara - sample size 3mL $6 - full size 11mL $22
Retail value of this month's bag: $52.99 ($11.50 more than last month)

The debate to keep ipsy is still going as I've realized that I don't use a lot of the products I'm getting in the bags. I get more use out of Birchbox.

All of this will go into the stash. There will be a lot of Project Panning in 2016.

Birchbox - November 2015

November's Birchbox covered everything this time around.

Included in this month's box:
  • theBalm Frat Boy Blush - sample size 0.57g $1.81 - full size 8.5g $27
  • Temple Spa La La Lagoon Bath & Shower Gel - sample size 25mL $3 - full size 150mL $18

  • BioRepublic Skincare Green Tea Detox Sheet Mask - sample size 1 mask $7- full size 3 masks $21
Retail value of November's box: $27.15 ($14.56 less than last month)

Pretty big drop in value this month. Good thing it's in CND and not USD or I would consider cancelling.

The hair mask and face mask will probably get used right away. Everything else will go into the stash.

November Favourites

I have some favourites!! I've been trying out some new stuff lately so these should be all new products.

Origins Clear Improvement Mask - This is a cheaper alternative to Glamglow's Supermud. It's not the same, but the charcoal helps pull out dirt and oil.

First Aid Beauty Facial Radiance Pads - OMG I love these. I do a lot of physical exfoliation, but I thought I'd give these a go after watching some YouTubers use them. I know why they love them. I can't use them everyday because they dry out my skin but I'll use them before bed when I put on my overnight mask.

Fresh Creme Ancienne Ultimate Nourishing Honey Mask - I got this at Christmas time at Sephora as a deluxe sample. I do really like it to moisturize but I don't know if I can justify the price tag.

Herbal Essences Naked Volume Shampoo and Conditioner - I got this in a bzzagent box and I was really surprised. This is replaced my salon brand for sure. This cleans my hair so well and doesn't too add much weight it my fine hair.

November Empties

I don't think I did too bad cleaning out the stash.

Kirkland Daily Facial Towelettes - This is the end of my stash of Kirkland wipes. I need to pick some up when they go on sale again. I do have lots of my Simple ones until then

Skyn Iceland Glacial Cleansing Cloths - They're ok but I like my other ones better.

Ole Henriksen Invigorating Night Gel - Gel moisturizers do not like me.

Glamglow Supermud - This is holy grail for me. I always buy more when I'm low.

Sephora Lotus Sleeping Mask - Again a gel. I was really disappointed with this. I bought a ton of these too. :(

Vasanti BrightenUp! - I don't mind this and I get them all the time in beauty boxes. I do have one I like better.

Caudalie Vinosource Moisturizing Sorbet - I liked the smell of this, but I have so many moisturizers to get through that it's not really a favourite.

Lady Speed Stick in Raspberry Burst - Old faithful, but I'm trying some new kinds.

Life Brand Melatonin - The cure for 4AM wake up calls.

Jurlique Rose Hand Cream - I'm not a lotion girl, but this was ok.

The Body Shop Almond Oil Nail & Cuticle Treatment - I found while packing last spring. Finished it up. I don't think you can buy this anymore. I wouldn't run out and get it if I could.

Marc Anthony Oil of Morocco - I like this and I have a back up. My hair just drinks it up.

Sensodyne Toothpaste - Nothing special. It's toothpaste.

Colgate Seneitive Pro-Relief - See above.

Redken Body Full Conditioner - I finished the shampoo last month. Again I have stuff I like better.

I finished a bunch more teas, none of which I would buy again.

Life and Times in 2016

So my goal of posting three times a week kinda worked, but I wasn't consistent. I'm going to continue trying and to also get some new content. If anyone has any ideas, PLEASE leave a comment and I'll see what people think.

Finish 6 By Christmas - Update 2

Another update on the project pan.

There's a bit more gone on Penny. I don't think I'll be able to finish it by my next update but I made good progress this time around.

Black Velvet is done!

Not much progress on Mink but more on Barely Beige.

A little bit more finished on the body spray. This will be another that goes into the next project.

I don't think I used lotion at all. :(

Sorry this picture is so dark. Basically Princess's sprayer broke so that's "finished" and I've moved to Black Star.

ipsy- October 2015

This month was a bit of a pass for me.

Included in October's Bag:
  • Coastal Scents Xpress Line in Black - sample size 0.12 - full size 0.12 $4.95
  • Ayres Hand Cream in Pampas Sunrise - sample size 0.7oz $6.25 - full size 1.4oz $12.50
  • LeeAnni Eco Go Away Gloomy Day Serum - sample size 0.5oz $14.99 - full size 1oz $29.98
  • theBalm Meet Matt(e) Hughes Long-Lasting Liquid Lipstick - sample size 1.2mL $3.30 - full size 6.5mL $17
  • Aurora Gel Effect Nail Polish in Inky Dinky - sample size 12mL - full size 12mL $12
Retail value on this month's bag: $41.49 ($2.16 less than last month)

With the dollar being so low, I was really iffy on keeping ipsy. But at a value of 40ish bucks, and I'm only paying 20, I can't complain.

More to the use up pile. 2016 is going to be a panning year!

Birchbox - October 2015

October's box has a good assortment in it.

Included in October's Birchbox:
  • Paula's Choice Resist Barrier Repair Moisturizer - sample size 15mL $10.77 - full size 50mL $36
  • 12 Benefits Instant Healthy Hair Treatment - sample size 1.5oz $5.25 - full size 6oz $21
  • Eyeko Black Magic Mascara - sample size 0.13oz $14.35 - full size 0.29oz $32
  • Mirenesse Mattfinity Lip Rouge in Sydney - sample size 1.7g $7.04 - full size 7g $29
  • English Laundry No. 7 for her - sample size 0.07oz $4.30 - full size 1.7oz $104.50
Retail value of this month's bow $41.71 ($9.14 more than last month)

I'm still really loving Birchbox. I enjoy the fact that it's not all makeup. I'm going to continue this into next year.

All of this will go into the use up pile until I get rid of some other samples first.

October Favourites

I really didn't have any favourites in October. Nothing new as of yet; been saving my money for the VIB Rouge sale.

Monday, 4 January 2016

October Empties

I've got a decent about of empties this month.

Origins Drink Up Intensive Overnight Mask - I love the smell of this and it works wonders on my face in the summer when I don't need a lot of moisture but still need to fix my dry skin. I'm buying the full size once I get through some of my moisturizers.

Simple face wipes - staple, I'm sure you've seen these lots.

B. Kamins Corrective Primer - I didn't like this. it just sat on my skin and didn't correct anything.

Freeman Clay Mask with Mint and Lemon - This wasn't anything special. I wouldn't buy it again.

Balea Brightening Mud Face Mask - I didn't find it actually brightened. I won't buy it again.

Ban Total Refresh Cooling Body Cloths - These were interesting, but I won't go out and look for them. I think they're a bit of a waste of money. If I got them in another box though, I wouldn't be sad.

A hand wipe from Montanas - I'm not really sure why I put that in there...

Pro-Namel Toothpaste - Typical sensitive toothpaste.

Avon Eye Makeup Remover - this takes FOREVER to use up. It's my favourite though.

Redken Body Full Shampoo - My usual volume shampoo but I've found something I like better.

Anastasia Clear Brow Gel - This is a sample size. I bought the full size one.

Avon Naturals Shower Gel in Gardenia - I love these shower gels. They're cheap and they work well. I have tons to get through first though.

Burberry The Beat - It was ok, but I won't buy the full size.

Marc Jabobs Daisy Eau So Fresh - From my Christmas project pan.

Can you tell it's fall? I finished a bunch of teas! I'm obsessed with Sugar Plum Forest.

I finished a couple of candles!

Happy 2016!

I hope you had a great 2015 and an awesome New Year's Eve! I know I did.
